Scientific Name: Synchiropus sp.
Reef-Safe: Yes
Min. Tank Size: 40 gallons
Captive Care: Intermediate
Temperament: Peaceful
Max. Size: Unknown
Range: Currently known to occur from the relatively deeper water of the South Pacific and the Philippines
Depth: Unknown
Diet: Carnivore
Remarks: A fairly new discovery to the hobby. Just like other dragonets, it's a bottom dweller the preys on benthic crustaceans such as copepods and amphipods. Given the right environment and proper care this is a hardy species. Forms distinct pairs who sleep close to each other. Males have a large flag-like dorsal fin and dark patches on the pelvic fins. Can be trained to take on prepared food and known to spawn in captivity. The bright red coloration makes this species highly coveted.
