Montipora (Montis) are an interesting bunch of coral with a range of colors and growth patterns. Montis can encrust, branch, or plate out. So be sure to consider placement for whichever species you're considering. In general low to medium light with high flow is good. But as with all corals, research individual species before purchase, as general guidelines are just that. But the good news is Montis are typically good beginner corals.
When purchasing Montipora, they're unlikely to sting any other corals (except for other corals if they actually touch), but they are likely to get stung, so give them space. The only potential downside is that they pose to other corals in your aquarium is when they plate out and start to shade corals on the lower portion of your reef.
